Base products are essential for any makeup look because you want your skin to look its best. No matter how great your eye makeup is, your face makeup really pulls the look together, which is why I have spent a lot of time and money on purchasing and trying out face products to enhance my skin so it looks better.
One | Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation Two | L’Oreal True Match Foundation Three | MAC Studio Moisture Tint Four | Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda Concealer Palette Five | MAC Fix+ Six | MAC Studio Fix Foundation Powder Seven | Benefit Porefessional Primer Eight | MAC Pro Longwear Concealer Nine | Too Faced Translucent Pressed Powder
The Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation is one of the best foundations I have ever used. It goes on very smooth and has a velvety finish so it’s not too matte, but it is also not dewy. The coverage is definitely full coverage and buildable if you need more so this is great for blemish prone skin like mine. On top of that, it lasts a really long time and doesn’t break on the skin, which is a definite plus!
L’Oreal is one drug store brand that I really love and their True Match Foundation is a great product for under ten dollars. The finish is not matte, but it is also not dewy; it just looks very natural. Although the coverage is medium in comparison to a foundation like Tarte’s Amazonian Clay, it is buildable and covers up any redness that I have had. MAC’s Studio Moisture Tint is a tinted moisturizer, but unlike other tinted moisturizes it has great coverage. The fact that it has an SPF of 15 doesn’t hurt either. The finish is satiny, and it is very smooth and creamy. I love using this when going to class because it is not too much makeup and has good coverage. The Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda Concealer Palette is a great palette and it’s pretty affordable at around eleven dollars. I like that it has three different shades so you can blend the different colors together for a custom concealer and many times I use this concealer to highlight. It also comes with a translucent setting powder, which is always handy! The concealers have good coverage and I like to apply this with my fingers since your body’s natural temperature warms up the concealer and makes it creamy and easy to apply. Although I like this palette I want to test out another concealer palette. Maybe one from MAC or Makeup Forever. MAC’s Fix + spray is a very handy and versatile product that has lasted me so long. Occasionally I spray it onto my shader brush when applying eyeshadow on my lids for a more pigmented, shiny look. What I love to do is mist this all over my face after I have applied all of my makeup because it makes the makeup last longer, but it also leaves your makeup looking more natural and flawless. Sometimes I have dry spots on my skin that are visible after I apply my foundation and this is very moisturizing and covers up those dry patches. This is also great to spray on fresh clean skin because it really livens up my skin and it is very refreshing. Primer is an essential part of any makeup routine because it smoothes out your skin and preps it for foundation. Primer creates a barrier between your skin and the foundation so your natural skin oils do not penetrate your foundation, which makes your makeup last longer. My favorite primer is Benefit’s Porefessional because it is very matte, evens out my skin, makes my makeup last longer, and it also decreases the appearance of pores making your skin look more flawless. My favorite under eye concealer, which I like even more than the Sonia Kashuk concealer palette, is MAC’s Pro Longwear Concealer. This concealer is very creamy, opaque and easy to blend out. Also, it doesn’t crease which is always a problem for me. I don’t use this on blemishes because the color is too light for my skin as I use it to brighten up under my eyes. For blemishes I use the Sonia Kashuk palette and blend a few together for a custom color. The last product in this part is the Too Faced Translucent Pressed Powder. I set my under eye concealer with this to stop it from creasing and since it is translucent it doesn’t change the color or anything. I love this because it’s also in a pressed powder form and not a loose powder, which can be messy and difficult to travel with. For the year of 2013 these have been my most used products on my face and I am pretty positive they will all remain staples in my makeup collection! What are your favorite face products?
