Fall is just around the corner and one trend that I am really loving is the menswear trend, but not on men–on women. If you have been paying attention to the media lately, you know that a lot of it is centered around women fighting for gender equality and for the ability to control what happens to their own uterus, which, at the moment, is being decided by men. *insert Emma Watson’s moving speech here.* Fashion is affected by many aspects such as politics in the media, and this has given birth (pun intended) to the women-wearing-menswear trend.
There is a theory in fashion, the historical resurrection theory, and it states that fashion is never new, it only repeats itself. During the 1930s and 40s, the masculine trend was very popular for women. It was a time of war. Men were adorned in military style clothing and women had to work after their husbands would leave to fight in the war. Thus, the masculine look was very popular. Now, about 80 years later, the trend has resurrected once more.
Céline, Hermes, Stella McCartney, Armani, Creatures of Comfort, and Ralph Lauren all had a few menswear inspired looks during their Fall 2014 RTW collections, which featured over-sized blazers, tailored trousers, and coats. All of the collections were stunning, and now that it is finally Fall (well, tomorrow), we can indulge in these fashions for ourselves.
So, for me, this trend is definitely a yay!
What do you think of this new trend? Yay or Nay? Would you wear it? Let me know in the comments!
