Review| MAC Pressed Pigments in Day Gleam & Deeply Dashing

Every girl needs a little sparkle in her life, and these pressed pigments claim to offer “extreme pearlescence.” MAC has had these pressed pigments as a part of their permanent collection for quite some time now, and they continue to add more shades. I don’t know about you, but I love to douse myself in glitter around the holiday season- I hope I’m not the only one. So, with the holiday season right around the corner, what better than to do a review on some shimmery eye shadows?

Day Gleam | This was the first MAC pressed pigment I ever purchased. I remember seeing him in the MAC store and being drawn to him because he was so sparkly and glittery (this is beginning to sound like a Twilight novel, but I’m still talking about this eyeshadow, people). This shade is like a dirty beige/ champagne/ slightly yellowish shade with silver flecks running heavily through it. Even though these can be used wet for a more intense pigmentation, this shade looks practically the same to me when applied damp or dry. I love using this particular shade on the inner corner of my eyes because it adds the right amount of sparkle and shine.

Deeply Dashing | I love this shade a little too much. I definitely use this one the most. It is a warm brown shade that almost looks like an antique brown color that looks especially great on warm skin tones. This color is stunning when doing a soft bronzey look with no liner and lots of lashes. YUM. I prefer to add matte brown shades all over my lid and then add a touch of this to the center of my lid for a hint of sparkle. It’s not too much sparkle, but it is enough to make the look pop.

The Good | These are super shimmery and glittery, but the texture is still very smooth and kind of creamy, but it is not a cream shadow. It is not flaky and it does not come out in chunks like some glittery shadows do. Also, it is not messy like loose glitter pigment, which makes it easier to apply and to travel with. This looks really pretty all over the lid, in the inner corner of your eyes or just on the center of your lid for a hint of sparkle on top of other shadows. Another great thing about them is that you can use these damp or dry. If used damp, it appears more concentrated and pigmented like wam-bam-thank-you-maam. Instead of being so glittery, it looks a bit more shiny, which is still very beautiful. When used dry, it is more glittery than shiny.

The Bad | It does have quite a bit of fallout, especially if you use a brush. In my experience, using a brush is the worst possible option because the glitter goes everywhere so using your finger is the best method of application. Even though the texture is smooth and slightly creamy, you do have to press into the product pretty firmly to be able to pick up enough pigment and glitter. Another downside is that it doesn’t last very long on the lids. It does, however, last on the inner corner, but on the lids (at least mine) it fades away through out the day leaving behind little glimmers of glitter residue. I wouldn’t advise using these anywhere but the lid or eye area. Many loose pigments from MAC, like Tan and Vanilla, can be used as a highlighter on the cheeks or collarbone, but these would not be good for that.

The Verdict | These would be a glitter lovers version of eyeshadow heaven since they are super glittery and shimmery. There is quite a bit of fallout, but if you are using your finger the fallout is not as bad as it would have been had you used a brush. Some people absolutely hate these, but I think these look really beautiful and add a nice pop of sparkle; they can dress up any makeup look. If you’re okay with a bit of fallout and you adore glitter and sparkle then I would try these out because they just might be what you are looking for! I definitely want to pick up some more in different shades since I love these two so much.
