Beginner Halloween Makeup Tutorial| A Day to Halloween Night Zombie Look

You’re running late on All Hallows’ Eve, but desperately want to hit up a party. You could use a few drinks after a long work/ school week, but you no longer have time to do the makeup for the Halloween costume you intricately planned months in advanced. WHAT DO YOU DO? Be a zombie, of course! You can easily zombify your every day makeup look, throw on some tattered clothing and be on your way to that spooky costume party. Plus, this makeup tutorial is great for beginners so anyone can do it in a jiff!

Let’s begin!

Step 1| Your foundation is already done so grab a black eyeliner and apply it all over your lid, a little below your eyes, and on your waterline. Then, pat a black matte eyeshadow all over the lid and under your eyes; blend it out so the edges are soft and smokey. (Used: NYX jumbo eyeliner in Black Bean & Coastal Scents 88 color eyeshadow palette)

Step 2| Grab a bronzer or brown shadow and blend the black below your eyes some more so it slowly fades out and adds dimension. (Used: NARS Laguna bronzer)

Step 3| Deepen up the color below your eyes using a matte red and dark purple-blue eyeshadow and blend well (Used: Coastal Scents 88 color eyeshadow palette & MAC Frankly Scarlet blush).

Step 4| Use the same black eyeliner and draw the outline of a contour in the hollow of your cheeks so they appear more sunken in. Then fill in the space with a matte black eyeshadow and blend it out with a dense brush. Blending is key! Make sure you contour the sides of your forehead and under your jawline with the same brush that has some product on it and blend away!

Step 5| Begin drawing some veins protruding from your eyes. I used the same red and dark purple-blue eyeshadows with an angled eyeliner brush to make the veins. I accidentally did this before I contoured so make sure you contour first! You can go as crazy with this as you like. The more you add the more diseased you will look– yum!

Step 6| Use a translucent loose setting powder with a dense brush and blend it all over your face to smoke out the veins and the whole face. This will make your skin look more cakey and creepy rather than really fake with harsh lines all over your face. (Used: Ben Nye fair translucent powder)

Step 7| For the lips I used a dark purple lip pencil and outlined my lips, filling them in a bit. With an angled eyeliner brush I then smeared it a bit so it looks nice and veiny. Use the same translucent powder and dab it over your lips so it makes your lips look more dry and dead (Used: Palladio lip liner in Black Berry)

Step 8| Then I grabbed some creamy lipstick, filled in the center of my lips and again smeared some around my lips so it looked bloody. I didn’t have fake blood on hand, but if you do then I would use some of that! (Used: Too Faced Melted Ruby lipstick)

You can stop here if you don’t have much time, but if you want it to be more intricate and gory then continue on, girlfrannn (or boyfrann).

Step 9| Grab some toilet paper/ tissues and pull it apart so it is extremely thin. Then, rub the piece between your thumb and index finger so it twists and rolls up.

Step 10| Take some eyelash glue and outline the shape of a gash on your face wherever you want your face to appear sliced. Let it get tacky and then lay the toilet paper/tissue down on top. Press the edges of the toilet paper/ tissue down so it blends in with your skin.

Step 11| Use a small flat foundation brush, dip it into your foundation and apply it all over the tissue/ toilet paper so it blends into your skin. (Used: Marc Jacobs foundation)

Step 12| Apply some red, dark purple, and brown eyeshadows with a blending brush around the “wound” and blend it out. I also dabbed a little bit of blue around the wound to make it look more realistic. The closer you get to the inside of the wound, the more red you want to use so it looks red and bloody.

Step 13| Then grab a little bit of matte black eyeshadow and dab down the middle of the wound so it looks scabby.

Step 14| Then, I applied the same red lipstick I used on my lips in the middle of the wound so it looks wet and bloody. This lipstick is thick and creamy so it can mimic fake blood if you’re short on time and don’t have fake blood on hand! (You can also use a mixing medium and some red pigment mixed together if you have that)

Now, you’re done! It’s really not hard and this is the first time I’ve ever done any kind of Halloween makeup that is gruesome and creepy so if I can do it, so can you!! My advice is just to envision a zombie/ disease laden person and do what comes naturally.
